Sri Lanka possesses the highest ranking on the Human Development Index (HDI) in South Asia. The country also enjoys the highest literacy rate at 92 percent of the population throughout the region. Sri Lanka’s HDI value for 2015 is 0.766— which put the country in the high human development category— positioning it at 73 out of 188 countries and territories. All this is an indication of the country’s firm commitment to providing quality education services to its citizens, as well as to international students, who seek to pursue high education at the country’s major universities, a list of which is provided below. We encourage Afghan students to consider enrollment in their degree programs of interest and choice and to let us know if the Embassy’s Education Section can be of further guidance.
