Colombo: - Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari received a courtesy visit from the SAARC Cultural Center Director Professor Prashanthi Narangoda. They discussed the Center's ongoing work and recent initiatives under Afghanistan's chairmanship of the Center's Governing Council.
Ambassador Haidari noted that South Asian nations are inextricably linked through many commonalities of shared history, cultural heritage, customs and traditions. He assured the Director of Afghanistan's full support for her mandate to further deepen cultural cooperation across South Asia as a region of rich history and culture.
Afghanistan is an active member-state of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), including its Cultural Center headquartered in Colombo, which can play a greater role in further strengthening people-to-people ties in the South Asia region. In his last meeting with the SAARC Secretary-General Esala Weerakoon, Ambassador Haidari highlighted the SAARC Culutral Center as one of the key regional cooperation mechanisms, which despite the inter-state tensions in South Asia, could deliver tangible results.
