Colombo: - Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari called on the Honorable Secretary (Chief of Staff) to the President of Sri Lanka Udaya R. Seneviratne on April 5, 2019. He conveyed the warm greetings of HE President Ashraf Ghani to HE President Maithripala Sirisena via the Secretary.

They reviewed the status of Afghanistan-Sri Lanka growing bilateral relations, agreeing on the importance of implementing the existing bilateral agreements and MOUs, while initiating new ones for further cooperation—encompassing defense, counter-narcotics, counter-terrorism, as well as learning lessons from Sri Lanka’s war-to-peace-transition experience.

On people-to-people ties, they agreed on the importance of increased exchanges in higher education, export and import of skilled and unskilled labor, business and investment, tourism, arts, music and cinema. The Secretary kindly offered to address any restrictions on tourism from Afghanistan, as well as helping expedite the signing of an agreement on transfer of prisoners.
