Ambassador Haidari Meets Minister of Tourism Development Amaratunga and Calls for Opening Up Sri Lanka to Afghan Tourists
Colombo: - Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari called on the Honorable Minister of Tourism Development John Amaratunga, on March 19, 2019. The Ambassador discussed with the Minister his recent meetings with the Honorable Prime Minister and Ministers of Commerce, Home Affairs, Foreign Employment and Sports to further enhance and forge stronger people-to-people ties between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
They also discussed the vast bilateral tourism potential, as Afghans with the means wish to visit Sri Lanka for tourism, medical tourism, higher education, as well as business and investment. The Minister offered his full support for opening up Sri Lanka—the paradise island—for Afghan tourists, helping remove any restrictions and upon-arrival bottlenecks at the airport in Colombo. As a starter, he offered to invite some of Afghanistan's travel and tourism agencies to visit Colombo and learn about tourism business opportunities in Sri Lanka.
“We at the Embassy will follow up soon for tangible steps forward to bring our two beautiful nations closer together through full-spectrum-connectivity,” Ambassador Haidari assured the Minister.
