Trincomalee: - As part of his provincial visit to the Eastern Province on December 4, 2020, Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari called on Major General Channa Weerasuriya, General Officer Commanding - 22 Division. They exchanged views on Sri Lanka's war-to-peace-transition experience, as the Ambassador highlighted the need for results-driven regional security and development cooperation.

He said such cooperation should help confront and address the intertwined threats of poverty, terrorism, extremism, and organized crime in South Asia. In this regard, he discussed Afghanistan's peace process and the importance of ending the imposed war, which's enabled transnational and regional terrorist networks to destabilize Afghanistan, while undermining regional stability and global peace.

Ambassador Haidari presented to the General the Afghanistan-Sri Lanka Friendship Plaque, following a discussion of numerous opportunities for military-to-military cooperation between the two friendly countries with a shared heritage.
